Please join the Mandeville Gallery for an Advanced Collage Night to be held virtually with Juan Hinojosa, the current Art Installation Series artist exhibiting at Schaffer Library.
Building on Hinojosa's virtual event in April, he now invites participants to think about collaging with 3D objects in combination with more traditional, paper-like materials. 3D objects are fun to work with and they add complexity to a typically flat medium.
Hinojosa will lead participants in making their own collages that combine traditional paper materials with 3D items found around the home, like buttons, costume jewelry, iron-on patches, or even small plastic dinosaurs and legos! Hinojosa will also discuss adhesives for different materials, how to use a rigid support, and how to display a more 3Dwork.
Please submit any questions you would like to ask Juan to our email address: email@example.com. This event is free and open to the public.
Collage materials can be found around your house, in your recycling bins, and in your junk drawers! In preparation for the event, please gather your choice of the following supplies:
- costume jewelry
- plastic toys (small)
- natural items, like sticks or acorns
- any paper
- book sleeves
- old greeting or birthday cards
- old calendars
- any paper-like items!
Supports (only 1 is necessary):
- wood block
- heavy cardboard
- foam core
- plastic (hard)
Glue and scissors or an Exacto knife are a must!
Hinojosa’s installation entitled, All Mine, is on view in Schaffer Library through 2020.
